Dining Room Seating

What do other facilities do as far as assigned seats in the dining room? I have always thought it was against resident’s rights to force them to sit in a certain place (aside from assisted feeders), and vice versa not allow them to sit somewhere because it is someone else’s “assigned” seat. We’ve had a couple of altercations due to one resident being upset that someone else is in “his” seat.  How would other facilities handle this?

Resident rights does allow them to sit where they wish, unless safety is an issue, e.g. assist in eating.
